The Gold Residential Project offers Gold Award Participants unique experiences that truly broaden horizons and challenges their outlook. At the heart of the Gold Residential Project is the undertaking of purposeful experience with people who are not their usual companions, working towards a common goal! Adding to this, the young people should also be outside of their usual place of residence, often in an unfamiliar environment.
Help rebuild and rejuvenate the south coast of NSW after the devastating bushfires of 2019/20. The majority of the coastline south of Sydney was destroyed, more than 2000 properties were lost, and many farmers lost everything they had. Help residents with ongoing support through restoration projects. You will camp under the stars with other DOE crew and when you aren’t doing meaningful work, you’ll be off enjoying white-sand beaches, hiking to spectacular waterfalls, learning about the local indigenous culture, stand-up paddleboarding, and enjoying chilled BBQ’s by the lagoon. Join us after Easter in NSW!
This morning you will make your way to a central Sydney location where you will meet your Rustic Pathways Leaders who will be with you for the duration of the Residential Project. Once the whole crew have arrived, we will pack the van and start the road trip down to Jervis Bay (Approximately 2.5 hours). Make sure you keep an eye out the window for some of the 100 pristine beaches along the way. We will make a secret stop along the way for a unique bonding experience where you will have the opportunity to swim under crystal clear waterfalls. After arriving and settling into camp you can start relaxing and getting to know your new crew. Your leaders will talk you through an orientation to discuss the week ahead. Get ready for a week to remember!! Overnight: Cabins, Jervis Bay
Today will be focused on giving back to the local community. We will partner with the Shoalhaven Council for service within the local community. Depending on the needs at the time, some of the service projects include working with the Bushcare team to rejuvenate natural habitats for the millions of animals that were displaced during the fire, tree replanting in the National parks, helping out at a local wildlife refuge or hands-on work at a local animal shelter where domestic pets have been placed after their family homes where destroyed. Service projects will allow you to get to know locals and learn about issues facing this part of Australia. In the afternoons we will get to explore the local area. Waterfall hikes, ocean caves, afternoon swims and exploring local towns are just a few of the many options. Overnight: Camping, South Coast NSW
Jervis Bay’s famous white-sand beaches and clear turquoise waters are amongst the most beautiful and safest beaches in the world. Offering rich Indigenous culture, resident dolphins, friendly kangaroos and the world’s whitest sand I promise your group will never want to leave. Wake up to a much-deserved beach day! Enjoy a swim, play beach cricket or try spot dolphins. For lunch, you will get to try a famous Husky Meat Pie, then spend the afternoon feeling grounded and connected to our great land when you join an Indigenous cultural tour on Stand-Up Paddleboard. Be guided by a local indigenous member as you explore and discover the ecosystems that hold great importance to the Indigenous people of the Jervis Bay area. Tonight we are going to celebrate all that you have achieved with a sunset lagoon pizza party followed by a Rustic Ties ceremony. Overnight: Cabins, Jervis Bay
This morning we will pack up camp for the final time and begin the 2.5hour road trip back to Sydney. We’ll be full of fond farewells as you say goodbye to your new friends and Rustic Leaders. We hope you’ve loved your time on the South Coast! Overnight – Your own Bed ☺
