Braden Betts

Laos and Myanmar Country Director

Having grown up in Kuwait, Thailand, and Singapore, Braden brings over 20 years of international experience and a deep knowledge of Southeast Asia to our team. Braden lives year-round in the region and currently oversees operation in both Laos and Myanmar. In his free time you’ll find him scouring the globe for waves, thrills, and spicy street food.

Chit Oo

Burma Country Manager

Hailing from Kengtung in eastern Shan State, Chit Oo joined Rustic Pathways in 2009. He has a degree in geography from Kengtung University and enjoys sharing his Shan culture and stories of colorful hill tribe people with our students. Chit Oo’s family always welcomes our students with a delicious homemade Burmese dinner when we visit his home in Kengtung.


Lyin Theik

Burma Program Manager

Lyin Theik comes from the town of New Bagan in central Burma. A diligent student and passionate learner, Lyin Theik is in his third year at Myinchan University studying geography. In his free time, he enjoys reading books, learning about foreign cul- tures, and listening to and composing his own Burmese hip hop – a treat for students and staff alike. He is a diligent student of the English language and has a bright future in Rustic Pathways.

Soe Than

Burma Program Manager

Raised on a small island in the middle of the Irrawaddy River, Soe Than is a strong trip leader. He is an impressive athlete who enjoys lifting weights and playing volleyball. He is also an expert in cane ball, and loves sharing this acrobatic sport with interest- ed students! An enthusiastic traveler, Soe Than has visited nearly every corner of Burma and most countries in Southeast Asia, and is an integral and valued part of our leadership team.

Ye Chan

Burma Assistant Program Manager

From the shores of Inle Lake of eastern Burma, and a member of the Intha tribe, Ye grew up on the lake rowing traditional Burmese boats with one foot, and playing soccer and volleyball with his friends. Ye is in his second year at Taunggyi University, and has studied English in Rustic Pathways’ Intensive English Language course. He loves showing students the wonders of Burma and the Golden Triangle, and is renowned for his warm smile and gentle demeanor.

Thein Than Aung

Burma and Thailand Program Leader

You won’t catch Aung anywhere without his famous smile making him a favorite among both staff and students. Aung previously worked at a five-star hotel in his hometown of Inle Lake in Burma, where he serves as our regional specialist. He has led programs including Off the Map – Burma, the Thai Elephant Conservation Project, and the Hill Tribe Support Project. Aung’s diligence and love for learning – especially English – are awe-inspiring.

Saw Nae Wah

Refugee Camp Program Leader

Nae Wah started working with Rustic Pathways several years ago when we first began taking students to the Mae Ra Moe Luang Refugee Camp. A natural leader, he was born in the Karen state in Burma before fleeing his village as the Burmese Army approached his village several years ago. He now brings his charismatic and cheerful personality to our Refugee Camp Experience, and is known for his creative haircutting skills.
