Our Team: Costa Rica

Ricardo Romero

Ricardo joined Rustic Pathways in 2005 after working in Costa Rica’s rafting industry for a decade. Ricardo has worn many hats on our team, from community service coordinator to sales representative and everything in between. An avid outdoorsman with extensive experience as a river guide, his commitment to safety in the tourism sector and degree in business from the University of Costa Rica make him the ideal director of our Costa Rica operations.

Wainer Ocampo

Costa Rica Country Manager

Since he joined Rustic Pathways in 2008, Wainer’s patience and constant smile have won him a special place in the hearts of our students. A Costa Rica native, Wainer has also spent time in the U.S., where he completed a cultural exchange at Hiram College in Ohio. Always the first person on the dance floor, he can often be found teaching salsa to our students.

A former river guide and photographer who hails from the hills of Turrialba, Mauricio is a great asset to our Costa Rica team. With a degree in business management and tourism and a fervent passion for mountain biking and kayaking, he provides invaluable insight into the logistics and safety of our adventure programs. Mau manages our adventure programs in Costa Rica.

Maricruz Acosta

Costa Rica Group Travel Coordinator

A native of San José, Maricruz has a degree in tourism and international trade from the Universidad Internacional de Las Americas. When not working on administrative and logistical tasks in our Costa Rica office, she can be found lying on the beach, reading a book, or hanging out with her family. Maricruz is never without a smile and a willingness to lend a hand.

Carolina Bolanos

Costa Rica Program Manager

Carolina jokes that she was born with a backpack on her back. She perfected her English during an internship in Minnesota. With a background in Business Administration from the Universidad Interamericana, her understanding of complex logistics will be a major contribution to the Intro to Community Service Program. You will know her by the smile that never leaves her face and her trustworthy character.

Rolando Carazo

Program Manager

Rolando’s passions for running, rafting, and surfing come in handy as he leads Rustic Gap Year students, private groups, and summer programs through Costa Rica’s great outdoors. This Turrialba native’s kind personality makes every student feel welcome, and his deep knowledge of Costa Rica’s history and culture turn every adventure into a learning experience.

Ignacio Mora

Costa Rica Community Service Manager

Nacho, as he is better known around the office, is an environmental lawyer who is passionate about the social responsibility that every individual has towards our global community. He has gained unique skills though his participation in exchange programs in Spain and program leading in the US. His zeal for service makes him a perfect fit as community service manager in his home country. You can reach to him anytime you need a hand, a laugh, or a delicious cup of Costa Rican coffee.

Stanley Berrin

Costa Rica Program Manager

Stanley is very excited to be joining the Rustic Pathways Costa Rica team and continue to fuel his passion for travel and education. After graduating from Pitzer College and working for a few years, Stanley recently traveled for a year around the world where he enjoyed engaging in cultural exchange, seeing the world’s incredible natural wonders and most of all, eating as much as he could. He will play any sport that involves a ball, is not afraid to sweat on the dance floor and wants to greet anyone and everyone with a big smile, so come and say hello!

Pamela Quesada

Costa Rica Program Manager

Pame is an environmental lawyer who believes in the powerful and positive impact of volunteering to our community and to the rest of the world. She always has an optimistic and charismatic positive vibe surrounding her. With her endless energy and enthusiasm in the most overwhelming moments she is a great team-player. You can either find her running or exploring in the backcountry or in the kitchen preparing and decorating some healthy dishes. Share a dance, a song or a cup of coffee with her and you will surely have an enriching time.

Laura Eva Arroyo

Costa Rica Program Leader

Eva has three things that inspire her more than anything in life. One is love of the outdoors, the next is love of sports and art, and the last love is for the ocean. She started her studies in 2010 to build her career working in tourism and became a naturalist tour guide. Her guiding light for this decision was Confucius, “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.” When she’s not working, she enjoys going to the beach, surfing or hiking with friends, reading and listening to poetry, singing, and drawing.
